It is system dependent.The which utility displays a message showing that the command you are waiting for is not in the list of directories in your searchpath.Since the which utility is actually all about the search path it will not work.

A directory is a file that acts as a folder for other files. And a search path is the sequence of directories in which the shell looks for command to execute and although some directories only contain regular files, and many directories also contain executable files.
