DBMS : Database Management Systems which is basically a collection of programs which will be used to handle the data in an efficient way and use for managing the access and querying of data.

As in today's world where the applications are being increased and amout of data thats being generating is to high .

We require a system that coordinates the data and make us easy to operate the functionalities for our requirements

So definitely concept of DBMS arises.

So there are advantages and disadvantages if DBMS . I have explained them using some generalized parameters which are like measures for our purpose.

ADVANTAGES of DBMS:

1.Improvement in DATA sharing:

  • In this aspect, the end users will have better access and best data that has be organised properly . It reaches to every user.
  • So a change at place can be easily identified by the other end users which saves in time of accessing it.

2.Security of data:

  • With increase in users, the data is being used by many users and factor of security comes into picture. So DBMS also provides the policies and privacy rules that helps any organisization to keep there data secured and make it safe from leakage.

3.Data Integration:

  • If something needs to be clubbed from multiple users ,assume an organisation where it employees have to integrate ther work as a unit, this comes into picture that , entire data is clubbed and can be easily accessed from all other its corresponding users.

4.Data inconsitency minimization:

  • Assume that a more number of users uploading the same data which makes data inconsistency when other uses it. So we require some mechanism to deduce this kind of inconsistency. So DBMS will definitely over come this issue with many other programs that makes things done.

5.Data access impovement:

  • DBMS will definitely make you access your data more quickly with the queries, in DBMS domain query is like an request from an user that he wants some kind of information. So DBMS will respond to those queries which makes effortlessly.

6.Decision making factor improved.

  • This factor has dependency on type of data and how they are organised.Improvised data always usesful for generating the type of information that one requires.

DISADVANTAGES of DBMS:

1.Cost will increase:

  • Definitely as we are using some kind of mechanism and protecting, managing the data and also access it with much better way than manual thing, so cost of deploying this type of organisation will definitely increased.
  • So cost of maintaing the software, hardware etc all will be very high.

2. Complex management:

  • DBMS interface has many interlink applications with one's organisation wrt to data they are handling and adopting this technology definitely makes it a bit complex to handle all at one place.

3.Maintaining currency:

  • Inorder to maintain and increase the efficiency , we need to update with the latest patches and should use new technologies to maintain its productivity. So cost in training will be dominant and depends on vendor

4. Replacement Cycles / frequent upgrade:

  • There will be changes and new functionalites may come into picture which needs to updated regulaarly and also updates in software versions, hardware components may also arise.

All these factors that express the advantage and disadvantages of DBMS
