Identify and briefly describe the two basic demand forecasting situations (for existing and new facilities) in transportation planning.

Answer #1

Transport to demand forecasting is nothing but the prediction of the future transport demand to establish the transport to plants within a given budget on that particular duration. this is very important for a rapidly growing cities and urban areas why because the population growth rate is very high in this kind of areas.

The forecast is based on current to travel patterns of the transport systems and under the assumption that the conditions will not greatly change and other one is developing new transport systems based on the facilities available in the particular area for example in the major cities once upon a time all transport is based on the road based transport system but slowly the new mode of transportation sar developed in the urban areas like railway metro and airbus.

For better understanding forecast evaluation is must and should IT companies the data on the network and considering the travel volume within the current 20 years on the land use patterns and it also predict the future transport demand on target year it also includes the zones, links and nodes for the prediction to be correct the future conditions need to stay largely the same from the same point of travel patterns

The two basic and common forecasting situations are are trained extension method and elasticity of demand method.

indication of the trend extension method it uses the previous years data to predict performance based traffic demand for target year and it also applies the trend lines like linear, extension, exponent of previous transport demand. It is useful for existing methods of transportation systems.

and the elasticity of demand method uses the sensitivity of transport to demand according to changes of transport systems are facilities in this transfer to demand using elasticity of demand is the volume change of transport demand according to the change of transport facility systems it is suitable for developing and methods of transport systems
