Raw materials to produce steel and thier responsibilities in production process- steel is purer form of iron with lesser iron content.

  1. Coke- after collection of coal, coal is washed and crused. this coal is baked in coke oven and coke is obtained. coke is source of thermal energy in the process. it burns and generated heat helps to melt iron ore.
  2. Iron ore- it consists of oxides of iron (magnetite or hematite). this iron ore is source of iron, in blast furnace iron gets separated from oxygen by reductio process.
  3. Flux- flux is added in process to remove impurities, by producing slag. generally lime stone is used as flux.
  4. Air- air is preheated by fuel gas from coke oven. this air passes through furnace burns the coke to produce required heat.
