Predict the reactants of this chemical reaction. That is, fill in the left side of the chemical equation. Be sure the equation you submit is balanced. (You can edit both sides of the equation to balance it, if you need to.) Note: you are writing the molecular, and not the net ionic equation.

---> Ca (NO2)2(aq) + H2O(l)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The products are water and salt. We know these come as products of neutralization reaction of an acid and a base. The base is generally in these kind of salts (metal salts), the metal hydroxide and acid is the protonated version of the anionic part of salt. Now, the salt is Ca(NO2)2. So, cation is Ca2+ and anion is NO2-.

So, balancing charge base is Ca(OH)2 and acid is HNO2.

So, the reaction is:

On the right, there are two NO2 units, thus coefficient of HNO2 on the left will be 2. Also to balance the number of O and H we have to put coefficient of H2O as 2. So, balanced reaction is:

Consider the neutralization reaction between potassium carbonate, K2CO3, and hydrobromic acid, HBr, forming the salt potassium bromide, KBr, carbon dioxide, CO2, and water, H2O. The balanced chemical equation for the reaction is K2CO3(aq)+2HBr(aq)→2KBr(aq)+CO2(g)+H2O(l) In the reaction, K2CO3, HBr, and KBr are strong electrolytes, so these compounds dissociate completely in water to form their respective ions.
