Which of these solute combination are more complex than others? Explain
A) sodium chloride(NaCl) and sucrose c12h22o11
B)NaCl and CaCl2
C)NaCl and NaNO3
D) C12H22O11 and glucose

What is the concentration specifically indicating for each type of solute?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Order of complicity, from higher to lower : B > C > A > D

1. NaCl – CaCl2 (common ion effect, 3 Cl). The solubility of both the solutes is a solution depends on the relative abundance and dissociation constant. Because of common ion effects, increase in concentration of any solute affects the overall solubility of both the solutes. The solutes’ pair has 3 moles of common ions (3 Cl)

2. NaCl – NaNO3 (common ion effect, 2 Na). see 1

3. NaCl – sucrose (NaCl is ionizable). Both the solutes may dissolve in the solution independently, but NaCl produces two moles of ions

4. Sucrose- Glucose: both the solutes dissolve independently.
