Question

is vinegar composed of ions or molecules

is vinegar composed of ions or molecules

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Vinegar an aqueous solution of Acetic acid with a concentration 5 to 20 % (w/v).

Acetic acid is a very weak organic acid and hence ionizes to little extent only.

But weak electrolytes shows more degree of ionization.

Hence we can say that vinegat contains major portion as unionized molecular Acetic acid AcOH

and to some extent there are AcO- and H+ in the for H3O+ are present.

AcOH + H2O <--------> AcO- (aq) + H3O+(aq)

Vinegar thus is composed of manly molecles of AcOH with some ions AcO- and H3O+.
