Question

The condensed electron configuration of sodium, element 11, is ________.

The condensed electron configuration of sodium, element 11, is ________.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In order to write the sodium electron configuration we first need to know the number of electrons for the sodium atom is 11. When we write the configuration we Will put the all 11 electrons in the orbital around the nucleus of sodium atom.

1.First 2 electrons will go in the 1S orbital

2. 1S can only hold 2 electrons

3. The next 2 electrons for sodium will go in the 2S orbital

4. The next 6 electrons will go in the 2P orbital. P orbital only can hold 6 electrons

5.then we put the remaining electron in 3S orbital.

So the configuration will be :-

1S2   2S2    2P6 3S 1
