Answer #1

answer is less

the gap of HOMO abd LUMO will depends on the effective conjugation

more the effective conjugation less will be theenergy gap

why i used effective word is

cis stillibine and trans stillibine both will have same no of double bonds

in the case of cis both phenyl grops are not in plane this is because to decrease the repulsion one phenyl group will be out of plane so there is no effective conjugation

where as in the case of trans stillibene both the Ph rings are parap away and in the same plane so effective conjugation will be there in the both rings so more conjugation less energ gap

homo-lumo energy gap for E-stilbene be less than the hoo-lumo energy gap for Z-stillbene
