In the separation of sand/salt mixture lab, what is implied if the combined mass of dry salt and dry sand is greater than the mass of the original mixture?
If you have used water to seperate these, then the only possibility left is the salt may still be containing some amount of mositure, or the salt may have taken the water inside as water of crystallization.
just to boost my above said statement,
CuSO4.H2O + H2O -----> CuSO4.5H2O
white, solid blue solid
depends on which salt you have taken
and if you go in ppb and ppm level we nmay see that the impurities in water such as metal salts, may add to the weight.
