A tank contains helium gas at 490. mmHg, nitrogen gas at 0.750 atm, and neon at 520. Torr. What is the total pressure in atm?

A) 2.08 atm       B) 0.579 atm         C) 1.01 × 103 atm        D) 1.33 atm          E) 1.60 × 103 atm    How is this done please?

Answer #1

answer : A) 2.08 atm

explanation:

just convert all pressure into atm

760 mmHg = 1 atm

760 torr = 1atm

He pressure = 490 mmHg = 490 / 760 atm

                     = 0.645 atm

N2 pressure = 0.750 atm

Ne pressure = 520 torr

                        = 0.684 atm

total pressure = 0.684 + 0.750 + 0.645

                         = 2.08 atm
