What does pO2 refer to in a solution like blood? In the blood, is there some O2 bound and some unbound? What form of oxygen does the pO2 refer to?
PO2 (is the partial pressure of oxygen) reflects the amount of oxygen gas dissolved in the blood. It measures the effectiveness of the lungs in pulling oxygen into the blood stream from the outer atmosphere.
yes there is some bound and some unbound O2 present actually the bound and unbound are said in accordence to there bonding with hemoglobin.
pO2 as already said is partial pressure of o2 as oxygen diffuses from higher pO2 to lower pO2 , it is a pressure difference... thus in the lungs, the body has a lower po2 when breathing in, so it can easily 'attract' oxygen into the body .
