Sulfuric acid + calcium acetate Molecular: Total: Ionic:

Sulfuric acid + calcium acetate

Total:

Ionic:

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Molecular equation:

H2SO4 (aq.) + Ca(CH3COO)2 (aq.) -----------> CaSO4 (s) + 2 CH3COOH (aq.)

Total ionic equation:

2 H+ (aq.) + SO42- (aq.) + Ca2+ (aq.) + 2 CH3COO- (aq.) -----------> CaSO4 (s) + 2 CH3COOH (aq.)

Since CaSO4 is insoluble and CH3COOH is weak acid they do not under go complete dissociation. Hence, no spectator ions.

Net ionic equation is same as total ionic equation:

2 H+ (aq.) + SO42- (aq.) + Ca2+ (aq.) + 2 CH3COO- (aq.) -----------> CaSO4 (s) + 2 CH3COOH (aq.)
