In incandecent lamps, the heat from the filament causes valence electrons from the surrounding gases to excite which de-excite later to emit light. Whereas, in traditional oil lamps (or candles), the heat from combustion causes the electrons of the surrounding gases to excite.
In both cases, the excitation of electrons is caused by heat sources which are powered by electric current in case of incandecent lamp and oxidation reaction in case of oil lamps or candles.
