If He(g) has an average kinetic energy of 7650 J/mol under certain conditions, what is the root mean square speed of N2(g) molecules under the same conditions?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

KE   = 3/2RT

7650J/mole   = 3/2RT

7650J/mole   = 1.5*8.314T

T    = 613.42K

molar mass of N2 of He = 28g/mole

RMS velocity   = 3RT/M

                        = 3*8.314*613.42/28

                        = 546.42    =23.375m/sec
