What would be the effect (increase, decrease, no change) on the calculated value of R for the following procedural error. Explain why.

You forgot to account for the water vapor pressure and used the barometric pressure as th pressure of the hydrogen gas.

Explanation:According to Dalton's law of partial pressure we must taken into account of water vapor also.

Ptotal = PH2 + Pwater

PH2 = Ptotal - Pwater, but You forgot to account for the water vapor pressure and used the barometric pressure as th pressure of the hydrogen gas. Now you have higher pressure value as you have not substracted water value from this value.

Now we use PV = nRT ----------==> R = PV / nT

If the pressure value is higher then calculated "R" value will also be higher.
