Explain. Emulsion polymerization allows one to increase both the rate of polymerization and the molecular weight of the polymer using a single parameter
In the emulsion polymerization, a surfactant is dissolved in water where it will form micelles. The polymerization will happen inside of these micelles. In addition, a monomer and an initiator are also added. The initiator decomposes in free radicals. The free radicals and the monomer enter inside the micelles where they react initiating polymerization. So, if we want to increase the speed of polymerization and the molecular weight it is necessary that the propagation of the reaction continue, therefore we must decrease the speed of completion. The speed of completion decreases when the free radicals decreases so, we must decrease the concentration of initiator. So that, the single parameter is the concentration of initiator.
