1 A GC sample of a mixture of two compound produces a single peak in the chromatograph. Give two factors that you could change in the GC experiment to increase the resolution so that the two compounds are seperated.

Solution: Factors

-The optimising GC over temperature ramp, using a lower temperature rate before the time the overlapping happens.

-Another factor for this problem is reduction in ramping time.

-Optimize the carrier gas velocity (according to Van d method). Probably it is necessary to change the linear velocity of carrier gas. Try to reduce the velocity.

1. Two fluorescent compounds A and B are present in a mixture. Using a spectrofluorimeter similar to the one used in this experiment, how would you determine the quantity of A in the mixture if- A absorbs radiation in a region where B does not. Both A and B absorb in the same region but A emits fluorescence at different wavelengths than B.
