What is the theoretical yield of 4-chlorochalcone if you start with .176g of p-chlorobenzaldehyde

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1 mole of 4-chlorobenzaldehyde produces 1 mole of chalcone (theoretically)

Molecular weight of 4-chloro benzaldehyde is = 140.5 grams/ mole

176 grams of 4-chloro benzaldehyde = 0.176/ 140.5 moles = 1.25 * 10 -3 moles of 4-chloro benzaldehyde

So, theoretically 1.25 moles of 4-chloro benzaldehyde will produce 1.25 10 -3 moles of 4-chloro chalcone

Molecular weight of 4-chloro chalcone = 242.50 grams/ mole

So, 1.25 moles of 4-chloro chalcone = 1.25 * 10 -3 * 242.50 grams = 303.125 * 10 -3grams = 0.303125

Theoretical yield of 4-chloro chalcone = 0.303125 grams
