Acid base neutralization reactions (e.g.titrations) can be considered to go to completely to the right (to products). TRUE or FALSE??????

Homework Answers

Answer #1

This depends on the type of acid-base titration. Let us consider the following options

1) Strong acid-strong base titration

Strong acids and strong bases completely ionize into corresponding ions and the reaction will proceed to 100%

2) Strong acid-weak base titration or Strong base-weak acid titration

Here, only one of the component completely ionize. Therefore, the titration will not proceed to 100 %

3) Weak acid-weak base titration

Here, both the weak acid and weak base will not ionize completely. The reaction will not proceed to 100%
