Write the structure of the majoe organic product formed in the reaction of 1-methylcyclohexene with each of the following:

i) peroxyacetic acid

j) ozone

k) product part (j) ttreated with zinc and water

l) product of part (j) treated with dimethyl sulfide (CH3)2S

Homework Answers

Answer #1

solution :-

In the reaction (i) when alkene is reacted with the peroxyaccetic acid then it forms the epoxide at the double bond bearing carbons.

In reaction (j) when alkene is reacted with the ozone then it forms ozonoid intermediate which is then treated with the Zn/H2O in the reaction (k) which gives the one ketone group and one carboxylic acid group. but when ozonoid from the part (j) is reacted with the Zn/(CH3)2S then it gives one ketone group and 1 aldehyde group.

the Zn/H2O in the (k) step converts the aldehyde to the carboxylic acid.

Following are the products for the reactions.

Draw the structure of the organic product(s) of the Grignard reaction between phosgene (ClCOCl) and excess phenylmagnesium bromide, followed by aqueous workup. You do not have to consider stereochemistry. If a compound is formed more than once, add another sketcher and draw it again. Alternatively, you may use the square brackets tool to add stoichiometries greater than one. Draw one structure per sketcher.
