Based on a reactor with a 10 minute residence time, how many grams of biodiesel would you produce if you ran the flow reaction 24 hours a day for 365 days (continuous operation for a year)? The average molecular weight of the FAMEs is 292.2 g/mol, MW of vegetable oil: 883 g/mol and density: 0.875 g/mL. Assume that vegetable oil is the limiting reagent. Consider how many fatty acid methyl esters you get from 1 molecule of vegetable oil

Homework Answers

Answer #1

From the reaction, every 1 molecule of vegetable oil produces 3 molecules of FAME(Biodiesel).

For a basis of 100 kg/hr of Vegetable oil supplied to the reactor, the quantity of biodiesel produced in one year = 869649 kg = 869649*1000 grams = grams
