For the reaction A+2B->3C, assumt that it follows the stochiometric relation given.

1) What is the order of the reaction in B?

2) Write down the the expression for the rate of disappearance of B and the rate of appearance of A.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given reaction is

A + 2B 3 C

(1) we need to calculate order of the reaction in B followed by stoichiometric relation. In reaction ,stociometric coefficient of B is 2 so order of the reaction in B will be 2

2) From rate law, we need to write rate of disappearance of B and the rate of appearance of A

From rate law we put negative sign in reactants as a rate of disappearance and positive sign in products as a rate of appearance.

Because A & B are reactants so for both we can write rate of disappearance not rate of appearance.

Since C is product so we can write rate of appearance.

Rate of disappearance of A = -d[A]/ dt

Rate of disappearance of B = -1/2 d[B] / dt

Rate of appearance of C = + 1/3 d[C] / dt
