A) For a reaction with the stoichimetry, A+2B=P, a study of the initial rate of reaction revealed taht the amount of time for formation of 1% of the total amount of possible product halved when the concentration of A was doubled, and doubled when concentration of B was halved. Write a rate expression for this reaction and suggest a stepwise mechanism for the reaction.

B) For a reaction with the stoichiometry, A+B+C=P a study of the intial rate of reaction revealed that the amount of time for formation of 1% of the total amount of possible product quartered when the concentration of A was quadrupled, did not change when the concentration of B was halved, and doubled when the concentration of C was halved. Write a rate expression for this reaction.

A) For a reaction with the stoichimetry, A+2B=P, a study of the initial rate of reaction revealed taht the amount of time for formation of 1% of the total amount of possible product halved when the concentration of A was doubled, and doubled when concentration of B was halved. Write a rate expression for this reaction and suggest a stepwise mechanism for the reaction.

we have following daat

The amount is halved on doubling the concentration of A

so Rate is inversely propoortional to conc of A

Similarly the rate doubled when conc of B is halved

so Rate is inversely propoortional to conc of B

So overall rate law will be

Rate = K [A]-1[B]-1

We have following information:

product quartered when concentration of A quardupled, so rate is directly proportional to conc of A

Product conc does not change when conc of B is halved , so rate is independant of conc of B

Product conc doubled when conc of C is halved , so rate is inversely proportional to conc of C.

So Overall

Rate of reaction = K [A] [B]0 [C]-1
