Identify the effect of increasing acidity on the solubility of the given compounds. Give explanation please

NiBr2

Ca3(PO4)2

NaI

FeS

SrCO3

Ca(OH)2

Increase in solubiluty

Decrease in solubility

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Increase in solubiluty ------------> Ca3(PO4)2 , FeS , SrCO3, Ca(OH)2

explanation:

PO4-3 , CO3-2 , OH- , S-2 ions react with acid so solubility increases

PO4-3 + H+ ------------------> HPO4-2

CO3-2 + H+ -----------------> HCO3-

OH- + H+ ---------------> H2O

S-2 + H+ -------------------> HS-

Decrease in solubility ---------------> NiBr2 , NaI

reason :

NiBr2 is from HBr strong acid

NaI is from HI strong acid

these are formed from strong acid . these are acidic salts . so the acid doesnot effect the solubility of these salts

Concept: During the first week of this project, you need to synthesize several common kidney stones by precipitation reactions (Make sure that you save the kidney stones for week 2). You need to choose the reactants in a way that the kidney stone is the only product that precipitates out from the solution, while all other products remain soluble in water. This way the precipitate (kidney stone) can be separated from the rest of the solution by either filtration or...
