what is the taxonomy of streptococcus pyogenes? and what is its morphological and structural characteristics
Hi
Streptococcus pyogenes is a species of gram+ve bacteria. It is a
human pathogen foming common infections of skin. It causes pus
formation hence the pyo. The bacteria is cocci round in shape. it
occurs in long chains of attached cocci. It is an aerotolerant ,non
motile and non spore forming bacteria.
This is unicellular ,devoid of nuclear membrane, organelles exept
ribosomes and has a single circular genetic material. Hence it is
prokaryote and a bacteria. It belongs to phylum fermicutes as it is
gram + ve cell wall, a cocci or rod shaped. It produces lactic acid
so it is classified under the order lactobacillales. The overall
taxonomy is as follows:
Domain : Prokaryotes
Kingdom: bacteria
Phylum: Firmicutes
Class: bacilli
Order: Lactobacillales
Family: Streptococcaceae
