How does dried Polypodium sp. react to water?
P. polypodioides vacuole contents solidified and remain undamaged up to 97 percent water loss. The photosynthetic activity varies as per water content in the range of 20-100 percent. A dried leaf regains almost 100 percent of its photosynthetic activity upon immersion in water in the first 30 min of rehydration, provided incisions had been made into the leaf before drying. Anaerobic conditions inhibit this revival though cutting of scales can nullify this as well.
