Question

find 1 step in transcription that can be regulated by an epigenetic modification

find 1 step in transcription that can be regulated by an epigenetic modification

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Epigenetic modification refer to the heritable changes in gene expression but not because DNA sequence modification. Epigenetic factors will be responsible for this change such as Environmental, drug, aging, diet etc. For example Histone modification and DNA methylation brings the changes in gene expression. Epigenetic factor will interfere with DNA wrapping around histone and because of this the unwrapped part of DNA will be transcribed.

Transcription process involves the four steps:-

  • Initiation
  • Elongation
  • Termination
  • Processing

Few factors can inhibit the transcription elongation which can bring the epigenetic modification. That can bring the gene silencing and particular gene will not express. Variation in chromatin structure can bring modification in transcription process.

Epigenetic modification can block and initiate the transcription process.
