Question 3. How did you develop so many different types of cells in your body, when all your cells have the same set of genes in them?
All the cell in the body of the organisms have same DNA. So,
genes of all cells are also same.
Yet, there are different types of cells and tissues since not all
the genes are expressed in all cell types. Gene expression refers
to synthesis of RNA using DNA as template and synthesis of
respective protein from the RNA. So, spatial differences in gene
expression allows presence of different cell types.
Other mechanism is alternative splicing of same RNA. RNA has both
exons and introns. Introns are removed from RNA during the post
transcriptional modifications. Alternative splicing allows
formation of different RNAs from same DNA sequences which in turn
code for different proteins specific to the cell types.
