Hardy weinberg equilibrium gives the frequency of genotypes or alleles of a population, thus calculating the genetic variation of a population at equilibrium. p^2+2pq+q^2=1 p is the allele frequency of gene A and q is the allele frequency of gene B.And if p is known q can be calculated.p+q=. And also Hardey weinberg equation is used to determine population stratification and other forms of non random mating.In population genetics studies, the Hardy-Weinberg equation can be used to measure whether the observed genotype frequencies in a population differ from the frequencies predicted by the equation.
