why are mosses are usually found in moist areas?
Mosses have no root system to absorb water from the soil so they are dependent strictly on available water. They have no vessel system to carry water from root to different cells so mosses depend upon passive diffusion for water supply. Besides this mosses are flowerless plant and their reproductive organs are archigonium(female) and antheridium (male), produce non motile egg and motile sperm(antherozoids). It is called sperm because have a flagella like structure through which it swims in water and fertilize the egg. Like flowering plants they can't form pollen tube like structure for efficient fertilization. So mosses can't move far from water resources for kepping up both survival and reproductive fitness.
