When doing an at home science experiment to determine the grease and fat content in different brands of potato chips, what is a good hypothesis?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In this case, one of the easiest ways to determinate the grease and fat content of your snacks is to put a good amount of them in a graph paper covered with a wax paper. Once you are ready, you must use a rolling pin to crush the chips. At the end of the experiment, you will notice grease spots in the graph paper. You can actually measure those spots with a ruler.

So, your hypothesis would be:

The greasiest brands of potato chips will form longest spots in the graph paper

An experiment was conducted to compare the alcohol content of soy sauce on two different production lines. Production was monitored eight times a day in both production lines. Production line 1 has a sample standard deviation of 0.16 and Production line 2 has a sample standard deviation of 0.11. Assume both populations are normal. State and conclude your hypothesis at the 0.05 level of significance if the both of production lines have the same variability?

You are given an experiment to determine the Hydrolysis of different salts. For this, you take different samples of different salts, add 2-3 drops of different indicator in them and note the color change. Then compare the color change to a color indicator chart to determine the pH of the salt. What is the GREATEST source of error in an experiment like this? How could you minimize this error?

How can direct control and blocking be used to account for these extraneous factors so they don't obscure the effects of the treatments on the response?

An experiment was conducted to investigate the machine performance of deep hole drilling when chip congestion exists. The length, in mm, of 50 drill chips had a sample mean of 71.2 mm. Assume the population standard deviation is 15.2 mm.  Conduct a test to determine whether the true mean drill chip length is less than 75 mm at α=.01.   Null Hypothesis (u): Alternative Hypothesis: Standard Error: Test Statistic (z): p-value (lower tail): p-value (upper tail): p-value (two tail): appropriate p value:...

When games were sampled from throughout a season, it was found that the home team won 127 of 198 professional basketball games and the home team won 57 of 99 professional football games. At the 5% level of significance, does this indicate that there is a significant difference between the proportion of home games won by the two sports? Randomly selected students participated in an experiment to test their ability to determine when one minute (or sixty seconds) has passed. Forty students yielded a sample mean of 59.7 seconds. Assuming that sigma =10.1 seconds, construct and interpret a 90% confidence interval estimate of the population mean of all students. A researcher doing a paired T Test obtains a p-value of 0.026 when testing the hypotheses H0:ud = 0 and Ha: ud =/ 0. If she also computes a 99% confidence interval for the mean difference, which of the following should she expect? Answers: Zero will be in the confidence interval because 0.026 < 0.05 Zero will not be in the confidence interval because 0.026 > 0.01 Zero will not be in the confidence interval because 0.026 < 0.05 Zero...
