define what Trophozoites and Giemsa are?
Trophozoites are active or vegetative stage of some protozoan that causes infection in host. Generally protozoa enter in the host as Cyst(resting state) form but when enter the host they escape from the cyst and at these stage they absorbing nutrients from the host. For example Entamoeba histolytica transmitted by contaminated water as cyst form, then cyst germinate to form amoeba and grow on intestinal mucosa.
Giemsa is a polychromatic staining agent used to in cytogenetics and histopathological diagnosis of malaria and other parasites for staining nucleic acid. Giemsa contain methylene blue (basic dye) and eosin (acidic dye) . When applied to mixture of cell (blood cell) it can differentiate cell based on their charge. These stain used in malaria parasite diagnosis.
