Water Quality
What is the best way to make sure that there is adequate DO in a river where treated wastewater is released.
DO in waste water testing is Demand of Oxygen. DO concentration highly affected by salinity, temperature and atm pressure in the waste water. DO can be measured by two main procedure, these are COD(chemical oxygen demand) and BOD(biological oxygen demand).
COD: this is use to test the amount of inorganic contaminant in the water that are chemically oxydised with dissolved oxygen in water.
BOD: is the measure of amount of organic contaminants are there in the water that are oxydised by dissolved oxygen in water.
DO calculation is necessay because high DO value affect aquatic flora and fauna life. Hight BOD or COD indicates that most of the dissolved oxygen that are available for respiration of animals and plants are use in oxydised molecule.
