The types of connections between cells are,
- Tight junctions - they seal adjacent epithelial cells in a
narrow band beneath their apical surfaces
- Desmosomes - they physically connect the cells like gap
junctions but gap is not created. Desmosomes are found in
skin.
- Hemidesmosomes - they are similar to desmosomes except for the
fact that they attach to extracellular matrix. They are found in
keratinocytes.
- Gap junctions - they directly connected the cytoplasm of two
cells which allow molecules and electrical signals to pass through.
They are found in neurons.
