Define the 4 types of connections between cells.

Define the 4 types of connections between cells.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The types of connections between cells are,

  1. Tight junctions - they seal adjacent epithelial cells in a narrow band beneath their apical surfaces
  2. Desmosomes - they physically connect the cells like gap junctions but gap is not created. Desmosomes are found in skin.
  3. Hemidesmosomes - they are similar to desmosomes except for the fact that they attach to extracellular matrix. They are found in keratinocytes.
  4. Gap junctions - they directly connected the cytoplasm of two cells which allow molecules and electrical signals to pass through. They are found in neurons.
