'The iceman' is a 5300 years old specie, whose body was discovered from the Italian alps in the year 1991. Fungal material was recovered from the clothing of the iceman. Then material was then further sequenced. The clothing iceman had was that of a grass cloathing. The radiocarboned grass samples were sumbitted in the lab for DNA related study. PCR amplification was performed on the sample DNA. Primers were designed specific to the 5.8s rDNA and SSU rDNA. Studies proved that there are three fungal DNAs which could be successfully extracted from the clothing of the iceman. Sequences from the GenBank and EMBL databases indicate that DNAs come from psychrophilic basidiomycetous yeast, phylogenetically similar to Leucosporidium scottii, and two ascomycetes, one of which could be linked to Eurotiales, respectively.
