how to calculate total mass of 1g of a sugar solution

how to calculate total mass of 1g of a sugar solution

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans:

The commom sugar is sucrose. The molecular formula of sucrose is C12H22O11. So, sucrose consists of 12 carbon molecules, 22 hydrogen molecules and 11 oxygen molecules.

The molecular weigt of 1 mole of carbon is 12.01 gram

The molecular weigt of 1 mole of hydrogen is 1.008 gram

The molecular weigt of 1 mole of oxygen is 16.00 gram

So, the molecular mass of of sucrose =

(12.01 × 12) + (1.008 × 22) + (16.00 × 11)

= 144.12 + 22.176 + 176

= 342.3 g/mole

342.3 gram sucrose solution = 1 mole

1 gram sucrose solution = 1/342.3 mole

= 0.00292 mole

Total mass of 1g of a sugar solution is 0.00292 mole
