What is cephalization? How does lateral symmetry favor cephalization?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Cephalization means concentration of senses and processors in the front end which becomes actual head end.

Bilateral symmetry or Mirror symmetry - Body is divided vertically into right and left halves, with one of each sense organ and limb pair on either side of the sagittal plane.

Bilateral symmetry favor cephalization by clustering sense organs at the anterior end as the animal uses forward motion and this anterior end is the first to encounter environmental stimuli to which an organism must react.

Bilateral symmetry favors more streamlined body.
