________ is the process by which large molecules and cell products leave the cell via the phospholipid membrane.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Exocytosis is the process by which large molecules and cell products leave the cell via the phospholipid membrane.

Substances move into and out of the cell by means of transport vesicles. Exocytosis is the transport of substances or molecules through transport vesicles that cannot pass through the cell membrane. For example, the neurotransmitters present within the synaptic vesicles are released out by exocytosis. This sac-like structure is formed from the layer of the cell membrane.

1) QUESTION 13 Which one of these things must be true for a reversible protein interaction with a ligand to occur? The protein and ligand must have the same overall shape. Functional groups of protein and ligand must be positioned to allow noncovalent bonding. The protein cannot be composed of more than one subunit. The protein and ligand must have the same overall electrical charge. New phospholipid molecules are added to only one monolayer of a membrane but eventually are...

The lipid bilayer that makes up a cell membrane is composed of molecules like phospholipids that are synthesized from fatty acids. A phospholipid membrane undergoes a phase transition from solid-like to fluid-like when the temperature is raised above a melting temperature. What can cause the melting temperature of a membrane to increase making it more solid-like at higher temperatures? Select all that apply. A. increasing the fraction of cis unsaturated fatty acids that make up the phospholipids B. increasing cholesterol...

Membranes are used to separate gases since membranes tend to pass smaller molecules through them at a higher rate than larger molecules. In a separation process, air (A) is the feed. Two streams leave the process: a product stream (P) and a waste stream (W). The product stream, which does not pass through the membrane, is equal to 20% of the feed stream, and has a molar composition of 25% O2 and 75% N2 representing increased O2 concentration. Determine the...
