Most of the birds including LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE (Lanius ludovicianus) have evolved from reptilian ancestors somewhere around 150 to 200 million years ago in the Mesozoic Era.

The LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE belong to Passeriformes (passerine or perching bird) and its oldest fossil is 40 million-year-old.

Passeriformes consists of more than10,000 species of birds and hence is the largest order of birds .

Since the first fossil is 40 million-year-old, it can be assumed that this bird has been in existence since last 40 million years.
