The storm and stress idea had been coined by Stanley Hall, which refers to the period in which teenagers would be in a period of constant conflict with their caregivers or parents. These people are very moody and would be constantly engaging in behaviors that would give them thrills or involve risks. This stage, because of its instability, is referred to the stage of stress or storm. This stage has been known to be more extreme in the western cultures and Milder in the traditional cultures. In the recent past, there have been greater prevalence of this period.

An alternative to storm and stress Is “the period of hormonal drama”.
