If viruses which have no envelopes were prevented from budding, would they still be infectious? why or why not?
Enveloped viruses generally acquire surrounding membrane by budding and then infect other cells. Whereas non-enveloped viruses do not infect by a budding process. Non-enveloped virus is protein and nucleic acid complexes which can infect the cell by disturbing the host cell membrane integrity. The main mechanism of non-enveloped viral entry includes the formation of small pores through the membrane or forming large pores disrupting membrane integrity or lysing the membrane by membranolytic peptides.
Enveloped virus require envelop for budding and causing infections.
Non-enveloped virus does not have envelop so no budding occurs. They infect cell through mechanisms discussed above and to inhibit their entry pore formation or membranolytic peptides need to be inhibited.
