Given that the body maintains its pH so carefully, in order for enzymes to work optimally, is it likely that alkaline water can actually affect your physiology? Explain your logic

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer with explanation:

Our body produces a lot of juices by different organs which are basically acidic in nature. So alkaline water intake is actually good for our heath as the pH becomes neutral with alkaline water intake. But too much intake of alkaline water is not good as well as we want a neutral pH in our body and not alkaline one.

The enzymes that work at a particular pH our physiology has different mechanisms to maintain that particular pH at certain organs such as pancreas is highly acidic as it is important to digest food. There are mechanisms present in our body to maintain that particular pH in digestive tract. But most of the enzymes works in a neutral pH which can be achieved by safe intake of alkaline water, of course not too much, for a healthy lifestyle.

‎In this module we've been discussing fossil fuels and the impacts of their use. One of the impacts is an increase in acid deposition (or acid rain as many people refer to it). An acid can be neutralized by a base (also known as an alkali). Acid deposition can be neutralized by the addition of ‎‎agricultural lime‎‎ (an alkaline rock, not the tasty green fruit). The following exercise asks you to calculate how much ‎‎agricultural lime‎‎ it would take to...

To be successful you will make sure you complete diagrams as instructed in the tasks, making sure to include all items in the list below and their relationships to the other items and physiological responses. You also need to make sure to list or provide explanation where necessary or where it is asked in the tasks.
