Be able to draw and discuss Grime’s life history pyramid

Homework Answers

Answer #1

J. P. Grime identified two-factor gradients, stress and disturbance, which limit plant Biomass.
Stress include factors such as the availability of water, nutrients, along with growth inhibiting influences like temperature and toxins.
Disturbance includes herbivory, pathogens, anthropogenic interactions, fire, wind, etcetera.
There are three life strategies to categorise plants based on environment-
1 competitors
2. Stressed tolerated.
3. Ruderals.

There is no viable strategy for plants in high stress and high disturbance environment, therefore categorisation for this Habitat type is absent.
