The Importances of Biological Nitrogen Fixation in sustainable Agriculture

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans. Biological nitrogen fixation means the use of the microbial population for the conversion of the free atmosphere nitrogen into the useable form of the plants. It is done by many symbiotic bacteria and some cyanobacteria.

It has the following importance in the sustainable agriculture:-

1. It reduces the use of the external inputs of the herbicide, pesticides and other nitrogenous fertilizers.

2. It is environment friendly.

3. It reduces the pollution of air, water soils and other components of environment.

4. It also plays a major role in the biological nitrogen fixation.

5. Chemical fertilizers are very expensive.

Which of the following statements is true? Bacteria obtain nitrogen by fixing Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere. Most bacteria can directly use Nitrogen for the atmosphere for growth. Nitrogen is present in trace amounts in the atmosphere. Nitrogen fixation converts atmospheric nitrogen into proteins. Nitrogen is a required component for ATP synthesis. Plants will carry out Nitrogen Fixation to provide nitrogen to bacteria living in association with the plant roots.
