QUESTION 2
Homeostasis is the maintenance of a relatively stable internal
environment by self-regulating
physiological processes. Write about Homeostasis (Total 35:
marks)
The human body carries out various types of cellular activities.
To carry out these activities a stable internal environment is
required. The body maintains a stable internal environment such as
pH, temperature, water and electrolyte balance, blood pressure etc
which is known as homeostasis.
The homeostasis is maintained through megative and positive
feedback system regulated by neuroendocrine system.
Homeostasis consists of a feedback loop. The loop consists of a
receptor that perceives a stimulus and sends it to the integrating
centre through sensory nerves. Integrating centre is the
controlling centre mainly the hypothalamus that process the sensory
information and sends correcting signal to the effector organ. The
effector then release hormones that acts on target tissue and alter
their activity to maintain homeostasis.
