if a person has a heart murmur caused by the improper opening and closing of a heart valve, the ecg or heart sound (choose one) will be unusual as the blood is forced through a more narrow opening (stenotic valve) or the blood backflows because the valve does not close properly (incomplete valve) explain your reasoning
ECG shows changes in electrical activity of excitable tissues in
the heart. It does not show functioning of the heart valves.
Heart sounds are produced by closing of the heart valves. Hence, an
abnormality in the valve will be better detected by heart
sounds.
For example, in case of stenosed valve, murmur is present when the blood flows through this valve and there is muffling of the heart sound on its closure. In case of regurgitant lesion, murmur is present as blood rushes back into the heart due to its abnormal closure.
