What is the response of pulmonary arterioles to high alveolar PO2? Describe the ventilation:perfusion ratio and how it is impacted when alveolar PO2 acutely decreases
Thanks!
High p02 in alveoli will cause high ventilation but inadequate perfusion.Due to increased ventilation pulmonary arterioles will dilate.
Ventilation perfusion ratio def:
Alveolar ventilation/pulmonary circulation =4lit/5lit=0.8lit
it is used to assess the efficiency and adequacy of the matching the two variables ventilation( ait that reaches the alveoli ) and perfusion(blood that reaches the alveoli)through capillaries.
when alveolar po2 decreases, ventilation decreases and hence v/p
ratio decreases.
