Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer : b many sperms may fertilize this ovum.

reason:

cortical reaction occurs to prevent polyspermy i.e. allow only one sperm to fertilize the ovum.

when one sperm fusus with membrane of egg cortical reaction occurs .there is release of calcium ion which in turm causes exocytosis of cortical galranules which causes modify the extracellular matrix and makes it impenetrable to other sperms.

WRONG OPTIONS:

A. because many sperms can penetrate zona pellucida due to lack of barrier.

c. implantation depends on presence(no implantation) or absence of zona pellucida and not the cortical reaction.

d. cortical reaction occurs after the fusion of 1 sperm with egg and this happens in ampullary isthmic junction of fallopian tube and hence no relation with atresia in ovary.
