Intrinsic Conduction System.
A) What is the intrinsic conduction system?
B) which component will activate the myocardium?
C) If the SA nose fails, what will happen to the heart rate?
D) What is the purpose of the AV mode delay?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A) Intrinsic conduction system is a process by which the cells auto excite themselves. In cardiac muscle cells, the action potential for contraction and relaxation of the muscles is given by the cardiac cells itself and not by an external source.

B) The SA node or Sino Atrial node activates the myocardium. It is the natural pacemaker.

C) If SA node fails, the heart muscles would not get action potential to contract or relax. Hence, the heart rate would decrease.

D) The delay in AV node is important because this delay ensures that the ventricles are filled with blood from Atria before the contraction of ventricles happens.
